Trees Without Borders was honoured to welcome Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, Minister of Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, as part of a meaningful tree planting initiative focused on climate action, environmental restoration, and community empowerment in Zimbabwe.
The event brought together community leaders, women, environmental advocates, and supporters who share a common vision of creating a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.
As part of the initiative, a symbolic tree was planted to represent hope, resilience, and the growing movement toward climate justice and environmental responsibility across Africa.
Climate Resilience and Women at the Center
Speaking during the visit, Senator Mutsvangwa highlighted how climate change is disproportionately affecting women, especially in rural areas. Longer dry spells, erratic rains, and degraded land mean women spend more hours fetching water and firewood, while crop failures cut household income and threaten food security.
“Protecting natural ecosystems is inseparable from protecting women’s livelihoods,” Senator Mutsvangwa said. “When we restore trees and land, we restore dignity, time, and economic opportunity for women and young people.”
Trees Without Borders aims to address these challenges by linking reforestation directly to climate resilience and women’s empowerment. Through community nurseries managed by women’s groups, we provide training in climate-smart practices, conservation agriculture, and nursery management. These nurseries serve as both restoration hubs and income-generating centers, supplying seedlings, fruit trees, and non-timber forest products like honey and medicinal plants.

Trees Without Borders continues to work alongside schools, communities, and strategic partners to promote reforestation, environmental education, and long-term ecological restoration projects throughout the region.
This initiative forms part of the organisation’s broader mission to:

The event also reinforced the important connection between environmental sustainability and social development, recognising that healthy ecosystems contribute directly to stronger communities, improved livelihoods, and long-term resilience against climate challenges.
